New Section 60FA – 7-day Paternity Leave

1. The Employment (Amendment) Bill 2021 ("the Bill") was presented on October 25, 2021.
2. Dewan Rakyat approved the Employment (Amendment) Bill 2021 on March 21, 2022.
3. Dewan Negara passed the Employment (Amendment) Bill 2021 on March 30, 2022.
4. The Employment (Amendment) Act 2022 was gazetted into law on May 10, 2022.

However, [As of 16-5-2022] the Act has not yet come into force.

[In force means that the Act or the secondary legislation has the force of law.]

1. 《2021年就业(修订)法案》("法案")于2021年10月25日在国会提交。
2. 下议院于2022年3月21日批准了《2021年就业(修订)法案》。
3. 上议院于2022年3月30日也通过了《2021年就业(修订)法案》。

Paternity leave is defined as a leave period – paid or unpaid- reserved for fathers in relation to childbirth or leave that can be used exclusively by fathers as paternity leave.


This indicator does not specify whether the leave period is paid, the level of cash benefits, or their duration over the statutory paternity leave period.

Paternity leave offers fathers an important opportunity to bond with their newborn children and allows them to be more involved at home.


There is evidence that the involvement of fathers in their children’s early days has a positive impact on the child’s development and health.


Moreover, increased participation of men in household activities benefits women by allowing women to balance professional priorities better.


Offering paternity leave is good for the company too. It makes the company family-friendly and helps companies to close the gender wage gap by levelling the playing field between men and women and by decreasing discrimination related to maternity.


陪产假为父亲提供了一个与新生儿建立联系的重要机会,并使他们能够更多地参与家庭生活。


有证据表明,父亲参与孩子的早期生活对孩子的发展和健康有积极影响。
