Staff Handbook - Compassionate Leave Policy

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

Employees have the right to take a reasonable amount of time off work in order to attend to the needs of certain dependents, and employers are required to accommodate this right.

This Compassionate Leave Policy provides employers with the option to offer additional leave, either paid or unpaid, to employees in order for them to deal with the serious illness or injury of a member of their immediate family.

A contractual right to payment during a period of compassionate leave does not exist.
